Since the first meeting, held in 1970, the Gordon Research Conference on Electron Donor Acceptor Interactions has become the premier, biannual international forum to showcase transformative theoretical and experimental research on electron and energy transfer in molecular, supramolecular, and biological systems. The theme of the 2018 EDAI is “Electron Flow: From the molecular to the global scale.” Sessions themes include solar photochemistry, electronic coherence and charge transfer, electronic processes within biomolecules and in functional bioinspired synthetic systems, photo-electrochemistry, infra-red control of the electron transfer reaction coordinate, and transport of electrons beyond the cell and between organisms. These specific topics are of great relevance to the DOE-BES programs in general and more specifically to the DOE-BES Solar Photochemistry program in particular. The meeting will also feature the Power Hour, an informal panel discussion to address questions from junior scientists, in particular women, at the beginning of their independent academic career, and Poster Talks of postdocs or junior faculty. During the meeting a jury selects four posters among the poster presented, with preference to postdocs or junior faculty at the beginning of their academic career. The flash presentations, about 10 minutes, expose the work of junior researchers to the EDAI audience. The GRC and GRS will be convening at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, which since 1990 is the traditional site for this meeting (dates: GRS August 4-5, 2018; GRC August 5-10, 2018).
