Photosynthesis forms the energetic basis for the Earth’s biosphere and is responsible for the abundance of oxygen in its atmosphere. Photosynthesis can also mitigate rising CO2 levels and provide biofuels and biomimetic solutions for sustainable energy production. Despite its importance, many aspects of photosynthesis still await discovery. The Photosynthesis GRC represents a unique opportunity to facilitate intense and productive communication between researchers from multiple disciplines, all sharing a common interest in photosynthesis. Graduate students and postdocs will have the opportunity to present their latest research findings and discuss their results with leaders in the field during highly interactive poster sessions scheduled throughout the conference. A special session will be devoted to short talks by junior scientists that have been selected for presenting the most exciting results in the poster session. A keynote session will be focused on advanced biophysical approaches for resolving molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis. This grant will be used to help young investigators attend the conference, consistent with the need to encourage the next generation of scientists in this vital area of research to push the boundaries of fundamental and applied scientific knowledge to meet key societal challenges.
